Ian Rawling

Ian’s emergence as a contemporary realist painter is a fairly recent one but has been a long time in development. Early promise at school was followed by a degree in design from Sheffield Hallam University which was supplemented by chalk & charcoal pavement drawings. A subsequent career in art for Ian followed as a successful greeting card artist and his move to fine art and the realist style he now enjoys has been a natural progression.

In using his chosen medium of pastel Ian creates his highly detailed paintings, paying particular attention to the imperfections, textures and highlights found in otherwise ordinary everyday subjects. The crisp shine on an egg yolk or the subtlety of a burnt crust are crafted with both precision and imagination to help create Ian’s bold and intriguing images.

Recently Ian has been a frequent exhibitor at the Pastel Society Exhibitions at the Mall Galleries, London where he was awarded both the West Design-Faber Castell Award & the Visitors’ Choice Award for his “Cheese On Toast” in 2018. Following on from this he again was awarded the Visitors’ Choice Award for “Blueberry Ice Cream” in 2019.
