“Some of the  landscapes in this exhibition are from a number of oil and watercolour paintings produced during travels in the Ionian and Aegean seas, where my chief inspiration was play of light on rock and water, and the sense of heat in these places. The Norfolk coastal scene was approached similarly in terms of technique, but the emphasis had to be on the East Anglian skyscape and the tidal estuary, which creates a strong contrast with the Mediterranean paintings.

  The musicians belong to a group of musical studies I worked on last year, some of which I developed into larger works.” Michael
