“This piece depicts my son in a somewhat fictional setting, nonetheless a setting that is full of meaning for us both. 

My son and I have a wonderfully close if somewhat complicated relationship at times. He is autistic which comes with many challenges for him and us as a family.

He has a unique view of the world which has changed (and continues to) change me for better. As with the painting I made of my daughter trying to capture this range of emotion in a single image is nearly impossible but it was important for me to give it a go.

The painting shows my son bathed in warm sunlight buttoning up his shirt. He’s alone in the room which encapsulates some very important sides of his personality, some good, some painful. Out the window you can see 2 boats pulled up onto the sand  and the sea and sky stretching out beyond. 

I won’t explain the title but if you want to explore the English translation it might give some idea of how I feel about this painting and how proud I am of my son.” Alistair
