Light Path

I achieved a BA honours degree in Printmaking from Leeds Metropolitan University 1991-94 and started painting professionally in 1998. My work is held in many private and public collections, perhaps most notably in the Manchester City Art Gallery and the Public Art Gallery in his hometown of Bolton.

“My interests are in the subtleties of our attention and approaching painting in such a way that give rise to an unexpected communication. Primarily focusing on landscape as a subject, my aim is to mediate between the potential of natural materials to depict natural phenomena. Although the results of these explorations often appear close to our experience of vision my hope is that, in the freedom from reference material, the process is open to arrive at something which unfolds in a surprising way, both to me and the viewer. The works featured in this exhibition were painted in one session, which certainly focuses the mind and provides an exciting challenge” James
