Oliver Winconek is a full-time portrait and figurative artist working from his studio in Wolverton, Buckinghamshire. Working primarily in oils, he has always been drawn to the rich texture and robust qualities of oil paint, describing the process as “almost carving the portrait from paint as each individual brushstroke is applied, building form from tone and making the subject come to life.”
Fascinated by the human form, Oliver devotes much of his practice to portraiture and working to commission – these he welcomes from individuals as well as institutions. Over his career, he has been fortunate to capture the likeness of actors, musicians, and interesting people from all walks of life.

Oliver describes his work as abstracted realism – containing both realistic tones and identifiable forms but depicted using heavily textured, expressive brushstrokes to add a painterly, dynamic quality.
