“As part of the redevelopment of the docklands in Copenhagen a new Opera House was commissioned. It sirs across the water, opposite the Royal Palace. Designed by Henning Larsen, a distinguished Danish architect, but due to a difficult relationship with the Sponsor (MAERSK) the building is not one of his best. What is it with Danish Architects and Clients? (Sydney Opera House and Jorn Utzon). Neither is it as good as the Snohetta’s recent Opera House in Oslo. However , the internal space is quite dramatic and hanging in the Foyer are three glass chandeliers/sculptures by the renowned Icelandic/Danish sculptor Olafur Eliasson. (Your rainbow panorama, ARoS, Aarhus Art Museum in Denmark, the Weather Project 2004 – Turbine Hall, Tate Modern.) These chandeliers are part reflective, part transparent and with changing light conditions exhibit a wonderful range of colours and patterns and this painting picks up on this ‘Kaleidoscope’.”
