Moonlight On Page Street III

Exhibition: Artist:

Diana Sandetskaya | Oil on Canvas | 28 x 20 inches

“This is a painting of a view from the street in my neighbourhood in North London. I was enchanted by the light, the colours and the atmosphere of the night and a somewhat mysterious, almost transcendental feel to it. As the evening falls, the ordinary quiet suburban street is transformed, with silhouettes of the trees against the moonlit sky, occasional accentuated bursts of colour caught by the artificial light, strong contrast between light and dark and soft light of the moon – the scene acquires a different quality, brings up a new emotion.

There is something slightly mysterious, almost transcendental in it, and at the same time calm, peaceful and meditative, inviting reflection and contemplation. It makes me appreciate how important the nature and connection to it is to our wellbeing and everyday life, being an integral part of our environment. Diana

Diana Sandetskaya paints the end of the day as the sun sets and nocturnal scenes, often in the context of a suburban landscape. Sandetskaya is interested in the emotive response of a viewer to the same place, depending on the time of day, weather, and season, as well as one’s mood, imagination, narrative and personal experience. Sandetskaya captures what she has seen locally, painting atmospheric, poetic scenes that evoked in her a sense of awe, or which she found to have almost transcendental qualities. She works mainly in oils, painting in a style that references realism and romanticism.
