Alistair Little | Oil on Melamine | 22 x 16 inches
“This painting tries to convey how I feel about my daughter, specifically how I’m constantly inspired by her.
It’s difficult to express such emotion in a painting and even harder trying to define it without sounding trite.
I’ve had the idea of her holding a lantern “showing the way” rattling around my head for a while but didn’t feel confident enough to put it down in paint, however recently a few events in our lives have helped me crystallise those ideas. So, here we have the two of us in a dark room perhaps a library, my daughter wrapped in a warm blanket and me holding onto her arm for support, the light she’s holding just illuminating some of the books in the background, I’ll leave it up to the viewer to figure out the meaning of that. The lantern held up in front of us showing me the way, as she often does.” Alistair
