‘I was inspired completely by the rustic charm of this grey weathered painting- my mind full of the rustic colours in the countryside paintings of Sir George Clausen RA, a famous English painter of rural scenes, of the naturalist C19 French artist Bastien Lepage’s paintings of peasants and Scottish realist Sir James Guthrie PPRBA’s painting ‘A Hind’s Daughter’. I put everything into creating this nostalgic rural scene, in the depths of Norfolk.’
