“Paintings selected for this themed exhibition “Harmony” have all been created within the last year, reflecting those special fleeting moments in autumn and winter. Water naturally is the focus. I sketch and record while out walking every day in the New Forest where I live.
I select the tones and colour within the environment but with a specific palette intended to heighten the emotions. Music is a catalyst for this process when working back in my studio. Anything from Classical to punk helps to get the paint moving to express a mood.
I work in Acrylic and water based oils, building up layers using rags, brush work then dripping, flicking and blending paint. Occasional fragments of collage are blended within the painting as well as sections scraped through to show beneath the surface.
I used to teach Art in different colleges both in Durham and Henley on Thames. I have a Master’s Degree in Fine Art from Northumbria University.
Over the past twelve years I have been exhibiting in many galleries in solo and group shows and have received a number of awards for my paintings. I work as a full time professional painter from my studio in Lyndhurst.” Claire
