More recently, Rebecca has begun to place her figures into surroundings. She captures people in quiet, every day, very relatable settings such as cafes, street corners or narrow alleyways.​

The fleeting nature of her subject matter could be impressionist; however, her painting approach is sensitive and detailed, closer to Realism. Her educational and work history has meant Rebecca’s figures capture humanity with both great accuracy and empathy.

You feel you know the people she paints and relate to them.

​Her figures are caught in real time, unaware of the viewer’s gaze, and often they are part obscured or offset in the composition. She may slightly edit reality – elongating a sofa, amending a shadow, or extending the height of a window, gently affecting the narrative.

Her work is gentle and subtle, encouraging the viewer to pause and examine the details – perhaps through an expected shadow, subtle expression or slightly awkward posture.
