Something About The Light
James Crittenden | Pastel on Mixed Media| 18 x 26 inches
I trained at Walthamstow School of Art and the Royal Academy Schools. As a life member of the Pastel Society I have been showing my work since 1991 and I regularly show my work in the New English Art Club and the Royal Society of British Artists exhibitions in the Mall Galleries in London. I have also exhibited etchings in The Masters Etching and the International Original Print Exhibitions via the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers and the Royal Academy Summer Show.
I prefer to work directly from life but I also work from studies and photographs in the studio. When I see something that interests me I try to capture the essence of the subject through whatever medium is most suitable i.e. paint, pastel or etching. A lot of my work is inspired by the light and landscape of southern Spain where I spend much of my time.
