Jamie Eade SGFA | Coloured Pencil | 11.5 x 8 inches

“I have been drawing for as long as I can remember, with my early inspirations centred primarily around wildlife and portraiture. Over time, I became increasingly fascinated by reflections, light, shadows and extreme detail, which naturally evolved into my exploration of hyper-realism.

It is the imperfections within my subjects that enable me to create the realism I strive for the perfect imperfection! By elevating the everyday and often overlooked, I seek to bring shadows, shapes and reflections to life, revealing the true character and definition of each subject.

I work from photographs and create many of my own tools to suit each project. Although I consider myself a pencil artist, my approach incorporates techniques more commonly associated with painting. I work with pencils, white gouache and compounded graphite dust to create texture, alongside a variety of shaping and blending tools, stumps and paintbrushes. The combination of these materials and techniques allows me to push the boundaries of what can be achieved with pencil.”  Jamie

Jamie’s artistic process begins with a simple mark on the surface of the paper; most often made with pencil. Through a meticulous and considered layering of materials, he gradually builds depth, texture and tonal complexity to create strikingly detailed, painterly images.

His exceptional attention to detail is central to his practice. Reflections, wood grain, shadows and subtle imperfections are captured through focused observation, precision and patience, resulting in works that possess an extraordinary sense of realism.
