Hanami

Angela Malone | Watercolour | 17 x 21 inches

‘Hanami’ was painted during the annual Brogdale Hanami festival, celebrating the arrival and transience of cherry blossoms. The teapot was a gift from Japan and I filled it with pale, local blossoms, half emerging, half disappearing, reflecting the fragility of their short lifespan. I had in mind too, the challenge of painting with a very subdued palette, almost black and white, referencing the elegance of the Japanese aesthetic.
